Our Work  E-mail

PACANet works primarily in Africa and is currently operating in six African countries but with partners in other countries. We work through building networks, following the PACANet network development process. This 6 stage process starts with the exploration visit to countries of focus to learn from existing networks, explore opportunities for partnership and to share PACANet’s vision, Mission and plans.
Out of this activity, relationship building with hosting countries starts, a country task force is put in place and preparations for a Situation Analysis Study.

We mainly focus on four Program Focus Areas and these are
 1. Information and Networking.
2. Advocacy within and without the Church.
3. Capacity Development of Churches and Christian organizations
4. Resource facilitation and mobilization for interventions of the constituency.

 We also do Institutional Capacity for the PACANet Secretariat

Information and Networking
This focus area is aimed at strengthening networking among Christian churches, Organizations and networks in HIV and AIDS field by:
•    Availing information on the Christian response of the Christian community, and improve the access of the Christian to relevant information from the global perspective;
•    Increasing research information on the Christian response to the pandemic;
•    Enhancing networking initiatives amongst the churches, and Christian organizations
•    Developing strategic partnership to facilitate the interventions of the church

 Advocacy

There are many issues associated with the pandemic such as stigma and discrimination, poor access to treatment and care, violations of the rights of widows and orphans etc. that require the prophetic voice of the Church.  But often, the Church lacks the capacity to fulfill this mandate. This focus area is aimed at enhancing the advocacy role of the Church on the critical issues of HIV and AIDS by:
•    Educating the church to enhance its ability and capacity to take positive actions to address these critical issues in the church;
•    Equipping the church to influence governments, strategic partners and communities to address these critical issues

•   Emphasizing youth and gender balance, as well as involvement of persons living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA).
•   Engaging and educating the Western Church on African contextual differences and appropriate interventions for the HIV/AIDS pandemic
•   Advocating for FBO representation and participation
•   Facilitating networking and forging of partnerships amongst FBOs

Capacity Development
Most Christian interventions are inspired by the biblical mandate to care for and support people in difficult circumstances.  However, these interventions lack elements or programming and institutional capacities such as monitoring and evaluation, strategic planning, Program management, leadership and governance that undermine the effectiveness and sustainability.   Therefore, PACANet has set out to enhance the capacity of the Churches to improve and scale up their responses by:
•    Building a pool of resource bank organizations that will be facilitated to provide technical support to the Churches;

•    Improving the knowledge, attitudes and skills to competently deal the key thematic issues of the pandemic;
•    Enhance the institutional capacity of the churches for effective management of their intervention program;
•    Provide regional technical assistance training courses for the churches

Resource Facilitation and Mobilization
One of the biggest challenge facing churches responding to HIV and AIDS is the lack of adequate resources to facilitate their work.  Several factors aggravate this situation: weak resource management systems, lack of information about funding sources, etc.  To turn this situation, PACANet is poised to increase the resources base of the church by:
•    Developing the skills of churches to access resources;
•    Raising the profile of churches to link with strategic partners;
•    Mobilizing and channeling funds to the churches.
